Surviving Early Parenthood with Huggies Little Snugglers #MyHuggiesBaby

Looking back when I was a young parent there are so many things I would do differently today than I did back then.  Now, mind you my kids all turned out more than fine and have become well-rounded adults.  Now that I am a grandparent I can at times see how my son’s decisions are sometimes different than mine were and how some are quite the same. One thing we do have in common is our love of Huggies Little Snugglers.

One important decision when I had my first baby (and I feel is important for any parent), is making sure your baby has the best quality when it comes to their disposable diapers.  It isn’t any fun to have a baby with a diaper rash or leakage.  I have to say when my kids were all babies I used Huggies.  They always had the nicest fit and the best protection.  So I wasn’t surprised when my daughter-in-law and I talked about diaper purchases that she really loves Huggies.  For her shower, she received many different brands so she was able to try quite a variety.  She is a second time Mom, so this wasn’t her first rodeo.

Looking back as a Mom in my early 20s I know there are many things I would do differently today.  I will admit it, with my boy’s Dad it wasn’t uncommon for me to want him to change the diaper when he was present.  Especially if it was a “poopy” one.  My stomach has never been ironclad so when it came to the diapers like that…well you know the drill.  Looking back, that wasn’t very mature of me.  When a diaper needs changing and especially you are the one to notice you just change the diaper.  Now that I have a grandson in diapers, if I notice he is in need of a change I just do it.  Maybe it is my way of undoing my younger choices as a Mom.

So what else do I wish I had known when my kids were babies?

  •  I wish I would have made sure to go through clothing sizes on a regular basis so that they didn’t outgrow brand new outfits before I realized it.
  • If I had realized how fast time goes by I would have spent more time enjoying the little things.  You don’t realize how fast time goes because you are always looking forward to the next milestone. I would have taken more time and focused on them in the moment instead.
  • I would have taken more pictures and figured out a way to take videos.  My kids were babies in the age “before” digital photos, camera phones, and Facebook.  I try to find old pictures which I have and I realize I missed many opportunities that I see people these days do.  So I have also made up on that with my grandchildren.
  • We didn’t have a Sam’s Club where you could purchase a membership and get our baby supplies in bulk which would have been a wonderful way to save back then.
  • Going forward, I look forward to any grandchildren I have in the future and will continue to enjoy the 2 I have now.  Grandchildren are God’s way to allow you to make up for the things you do not feel you did right the first time or wish you had done differently.  So I will be taking my own advice and enjoy every single minute!
