You want to share your love of musical theater with your kids, but you’re not sure if they’ll be interested. Sitting in a quiet theater with a bunch of adults may not seem like a good time, but there are ways you can help your kids get excited. Buy Broadway tickets for the whole family to see one of the following musicals your kids might actually enjoy.

The Lion King

If your kids already love the Disney movie, they will definitely love the musical. They will be able to follow the story easily and even sing along with some of the songs, which will make it much more enjoyable. This play also is good to start with because it is immersive and visually stimulating. At times the characters come into the audience and aisles of the theater, and the costumes and art are amazing to look at. There’s no way your kids can complain about being bored at this show.

Annie

The sun will always come out tomorrow for this musical. For decades kids have been falling in love with little orphan Annie and Daddy Warbucks. Show your kids the original movie from the ’80s or the more recent version with Quvenzhané Wallis and Jamie Foxx to get them ready. Then head out to the theater for a live version with songs you know and love.

Matilda

This is another movie that has been capturing kids’ hearts for quite some time. It deals with real-life issues of loss, bullies, friendship and love in a magical and inspiring way. Your kids will relate to the story and enjoy watching it unfold on the stage as well as the screen. Plus, they’ll get to learn some new songs (and you hopefully don’t have to listen to the old ones again and again).

Seussical the Musical

You’ve read your kids all of Dr. Seuss’ books and they are obsessed with the colorful, silly and whimsical characters. In this musical, they can see all of their favorite characters come to life on the stage. They can see Horton and the Whos, and escape into a new world with new music and stories. They’re sure to be begging you for more after they see this play.

Wicked

Take a closer look at what you assume about good and evil in this “The Wizard of Oz” spinoff. The play focuses on the backstory of the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba, and how she came to be known as the villain in the movie. But is she really a villain? Your kids will be enthralled with this new take on an old story as well as the beautiful music, amazing costumes and special effects.
