#Cars3Event Interviews

While on our trip to Anaheim for the Cars 3 Event we had the pleasure of interviewing Cristela Alonzo (voice of Cruz Ramirez), Kerry Washington (voice of Natalie Certain), Owen Wilson (voice of Lightning McQueen) and Armie Hammer (voice of Jackson Storm).

I don’t think I have ever laughed as much as I did during an interview as I did in this one.  Their personalities all played off of one another perfectly.  It is so odd that they all recorded their parts separately as you would think they have hung out together since they started putting the movie together.

Interesting goodies I learned during our interview with these four talented actors.

  1.  Cristela Alonzo was told as a child to dream small.  She was raised to believe that great things didn’t happen to ‘people like her’.  There is a small speech in the movie that Cruze Ramirez says that is partially taken from her own personal story and John Lasseter wanted to include it.
  2. Cristela’s mentors in her life were her Mom who is no longer with her and her drama teachers in high school.  From both areas, she took away much of how she is today because of them.
  3. Kerry Washington has taught her daughter that it is important to have your own voice.  So when her daughter heard Kerry’s voice as Natalie Certain she said to her Mom, “that’s weird she has your voice, she should have your own voice.”
  4. Kerry said that she feels we live in a disposable society.  Natalie (her character) is so sure you can discount everyone else because the hot new thing is the way to go. Not only in their business but in society itself.
  5. Until the after party for the Cars 3, World Premiere Owen Wilson had not ridden any of the rides in Carsland.  He joked that he was waiting until Cars 2 then didn’t so he planned on doing it at the Cars 3 afterparty.  I can attest that he did as I saw him get in the car after we had gotten off the ride.
  6. When parents tell their kids, “This is Lightning McQueen, the kids say-“that is not Lightning McQueen.”  So Owen will say like Kachow while waiting to get their picture taken… and they are like “that isn’t him.”
  7. Armie Hammer just recently took a road trip on Route 66.  He said it was hard to decide what his favorite part was, and although he wasn’t sure he said there was more than one.
  8.  Armie Hammer told us, “There is something so magical in the American Southwest and it is the least densely populated area.”  Armie feels that nothing has changed since route 66 first started. “For instance, it is like the hotel beds haven’t been changed in 50 years. All of the bumping up and rubbing up against bed bugs, it is wonderful (a whole new perspective) like my glass is half full of gnats.”  He also loves just driving with the cruise control on, listening to radio, podcasts, and going camping.

So even with all of the laughter, I learned some interesting things during our Cars 3 interview with these fun actors.

Let me know after you watch the movie if you know what Natalie Certain’s license plate stands for, hint, it has something to do with Kerry Washington.

About the Movie Cars 3

Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves.

To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez (voice of Cristela Alonzo), with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!
